September: the True Beginning of the Year

September..

For me  here in Greece, it is never just another page on the calendar.. It is the beginning.. I have always felt it this way: not January with its fireworks, but September with its soil, its harvest, its pencils that smell of promise, and hearts ready to take root again..

It is the month of harvest.. Nature gathers the last gifts of summer, grapes, figs, aubergines, peppers.. No matter how strong the sun still burns, the earth knows better; deep in the soil, autumn is already being prepared.. And with her, so are we..

Wardrobes open, summer clothes are folded away, autumn ones brought forward, and with them, some of winter’s too..

Children, meanwhile, have their own kind of anticipation.. Bookshops fill with brand-new bags, notebooks, and pencil cases: Disney heroes, Marvel characters, Barbie, Spiderman, Frozen.. little hunters searching for the school supplies that feel most like themselves..

Older students look for tutors, preparing for universities, art schools, dreams of every shape.. Many believe their whole life is decided now, but they do not yet know that life begins the very moment school ends..

And here, in Keratea, every September the air swells with the scents of village bakeries.. Fresh bread with crackling crusts, warm cheese pies, sugar-dusted bougatsas, filled croissants. all baked at dawn, tucked into paper bags, slipped into school satchels.. The streets smell of homecoming, of simple blessings kneaded by hand..

Then comes the romantic face of September: the summer loves.. Those born on beaches, beneath salt-stained stars, are now tested.. Hearts drawn in the sand are washed away by the last small waves.. Some loves endure, some dissolve with a smile, some with tears.. the summer lovers discover that summer dreams, dance differently in the light of September..

And yet, that is why we love this month. Because September knows how to close and open at once. To gather, to prepare, to give a new beginning..

It is the month that whispers: “Begin again… everything lies ahead..”

Tatiana,

P.S. And because September deserves a gift of its own, I created a little set of three harvest-themed pages, a cozy space for your thoughts, your lists, or your memories. Consider them a gentle companion for this month, ready to hold whatever you wish to gather..
