A Summer Love, Etched in Sand

He didn’t know he would fall in love with her..

He came for a quiet summer, with no expectations..
He longed to close old chapters, to rest, to forget..
But she appeared like sunlight in the water..
Not loud, not rehearsed, just real..
With that look in her eyes, as if she had already read the pages of his journal..

They met in a small bookshop by the harbor, reaching for the same novel..
And she smiled at him, not like she knew him, but like she remembered him..

Their days found a rhythm..
Beaches, soft evening lights down narrow streets, ice cream shared with laughter, and silences that needed no explanation..

They wrote letters and tucked them beneath the pillows of rented rooms..
They made wishes with seashells..
And one evening, they dug a heart into the sand and planted a small stick at its center..

“So the world will know we were here,” she whispered..

He didn’t promise her anything..
He didn’t know if he believed in promises..
But he remembered the wave approaching, ready to erase the heart, but not the moment..

When he left, he didn’t say goodbye..
He left only a card on the nightstand..
It read:

You were the August I’ll never forget..
If you ever look for me, I’ll be where the sunlight once touched our little stick in the sand..

And now, whenever someone walks along that shore, if they look closely, they may still find a heart drawn in the sand..
Perhaps not the same one, but a memory of the same vow:

That summer loves, no matter how swiftly they vanish, always leave behind something that refuses to fade..

to be continued..
