From Utah’s Canyons to Mexico’s Rodeos

A journey through landscapes, traditions, and tiny paper stories.

Some days, the mailbox becomes a portal. Today, four postcards brought two different worlds to my doorstep.. one world filled with majestic red rocks and national parks, the other one with proud traditions, fiestas, and wild horses..

From Utah
Three cards from my longtime postcard friend Mark arrived, taking me on a journey through Bryce Canyon, Arches, and Zion National Parks. I first met Mark through Postcrossing 2–3 years ago (?), when I simply asked if we could swap more than one card. Since then, he has sent me not only paper treasures but also pieces of his life story.. he worked for the US National Park Service, giving his notes the feel of a living documentary.

Bryce Canyon – A fairytale of rock spires (hoodoos) glowing orange..

Arches National Park – A landscape sculpted by time and wind..

Zion National Park – Towering cliffs, rivers, and silence you can feel..

Each card is like a whispered tale from a faraway trail..

From Old Mexico
The following card came from Santa Fe, New Mexico.. The Queen of the Rancho gracing its front.. It told of a time when young women dressed in traditional Mexican attire would ride side-saddle and compete in rodeos, not for beauty alone, but for skill, bravery, and pride..

In the late 1800s and early 1900s, these daughters of the ranch rode fearlessly in full skirts and embroidered blouses, becoming living symbols of heritage and strength..

All cards reminded me of something simple and powerful:

Postcards are not just paper. They are portals. Stories. Friendships. Keepsakes.

From a canyon’s silence to the roar of a rodeo crowd, all it takes is one stamp and a little heart.

Thank you, mail. Thank you, world.

What lovely cards from a dear friend! I did visit Utah once, but it was in the Winter and so I didn’t see things like this! I would have loved to. Xoxo
