Postcrossing Mail Day

Today my postal box surprised me with not one, not two… but THREE lovely postcards — all from Germany, each one with its own little story. Let me share them with you:

A Quiet Winter in Detmold
The first postcard arrived from the charming town of Detmold, in the heart of North Rhine-Westphalia. The sender wrote that life there is peaceful and quiet, and she’s enjoying her well-deserved retirement.
And how could she not? Just look at that snowy scene she sent me, a calm river reflecting a beautiful church over an old stone bridge, framed by the soft silence of winter. Detmold is famous for its half-timbered houses and the nearby Hermann Monument, but today’s picture was pure stillness and serenity. You could almost hear the snow falling.

 A Big Meet-Up in Hamburg
The second card made me smile even more — it’s a Meet-Up postcard from Hamburg! And when I flipped it over… I counted over 20 signatures!
That’s what I call a serious Postcrossing gathering, people from all over, coming together to share their love of postcards, tea, and good conversation. Can you imagine how long it must’ve taken them to sign every single card for every person? Probably longer than the meet-up itself!
Hamburg, by the way, is Germany’s second-largest city, full of canals, history, and charm. Now I have a piece of that community spirit on paper.

A Village Gem in Bavaria
The last postcard was sent from a tiny village in Bavaria, showing the beautiful Church of St. Äthard (yes, I had to run to my encyclopedia for that one!).
It’s a small, historic church, named after Saint Äthard of Augsburg, one of the early bishops and missionaries of the region.
The sender casually mentioned that he lives only 500 meters from this little landmark — imagine passing by a centuries-old church every day on your morning walk!
Bavaria’s villages are like postcards themselves, rolling hills, church towers, and cozy corners where time seems to slow down.

This is why I love Postcrossing — every card is a door into someone’s world, a moment in a place I’ve never been, a reminder of how much beauty and connection there is out there.

So here I am, with three tiny windows into German life, sent with kindness, curiosity, and care. Isn’t it magical, how a simple postcard can carry so much feeling across the miles?

Until the next mail day.. happy connecting, wherever you are in the world..

Tatiana..
